Between History and Waves, Old Jaffa | A Story of Reconnection
The Vision: Transforming a 300-Year-Old Cave-Like Space into a Home Full of Light and Air
In the heart of Old Jaffa, with perfect sea views and the sound of waves, stood my most complex and emotional design challenge. A 300-year-old historic space, initially appearing as a dark cave, was chosen by an older couple to become their new home. The stories whispered by the ancient walls provided the inspiration to begin this journey.
The primary challenge was translating this ancient space into comfortable modern living without sacrificing its historic charm. The design focused on clever "connections": bringing maximum natural light and fresh air into the "cave," creating hidden storage, and seamlessly integrating advanced systems (like air conditioning units concealed within the ancient walls). The kitchen was designed with surgical precision to be compact, functional, and utilized down to the last centimeter.
A highlight of the design was the selection of light fixtures—a dialogue between contemporary technology and the local ancient language. The chandeliers imported from France are the precise connection between timeless classicism and innovation. The result is a harmonious home that respects its history while providing a serene, bright, and inspiring living experience.
